Quick answer: A kawach (kavach) locket is a small yantra pendant, often combined with Rudraksha beads, worn as a "shield" for a particular purpose: Panchmukhi Hanuman for courage and protection, Durga for strength, Ganesh for removing obstacles, Shani Dosh Nivaran for Saturn troubles, and Vahan Durghatna Raksha for travel. Wear it on a red or black thread, starting on the day of the deity.

Shreerudra has sold kawach lockets and spiritual pendants at its Delhi store since 2000.

How to wear a kawach locket

  1. On the suggested day, bathe and sit before your deity.

  2. Dip the locket in Gangajal or raw milk, then rinse and dry it.

  3. Light a diya and chant the deity's mantra 108 times, for example "Om Hanumate Namah" for Hanuman or "Om Gan Ganapataye Namah" for Ganesha.

  4. Wear it around the neck so it rests near the heart.

Moti Chandra locket

The natural Moti Chandra locket is a crescent-moon pendant set with a natural pearl. In Jyotish, pearl (moti) is the gem of the Moon (Chandra), which governs the mind and emotions. It is worn on a Monday by people with a weak Moon or who want a calmer mind. A pearl ratna for a specific chart should be prescribed by an astrologer.

Frequently asked questions

Can I wear more than one kawach?

Yes, but most people wear one main kawach to keep their practice focused. Ask your astrologer if you are combining planetary remedies.

Should I remove the kawach while sleeping or bathing?

It is not required, but removing it before bathing with soap helps the locket and thread last longer.

Which kawach is best for protection?

The Panchmukhi Hanuman kawach is the most popular general protection locket.
