Quick answer: A planet (graha) yantra is kept to strengthen a weak planet or calm a troublesome one in your birth chart. The Navgrah Yantra covers all nine planets together and suits anyone. For a single planet, install its yantra on that planet's day: Surya on Sunday, Chandra on Monday, Mangal on Tuesday, Budh on Wednesday, Guru on Thursday, Shukra on Friday, and Shani, Rahu and Ketu on Saturday.

This guide comes from Shreerudra, a Delhi astrology and pooja store selling yantras since 2000.

Navgrah Yantra: all nine planets together

If you do not know which planet is troubling you, or you want general balance, the Shri Navgrah Yantra in pure brass is the usual choice. The laminated Grah Vastu Dosh Nivaran Yantra on Bhoj Patra combines planetary and Vastu remedies.

When is a planet yantra recommended?

  • Surya: low confidence, problems with father, government work or career recognition.

  • Chandra: restless mind, mood swings, problems related to mother.

  • Mangal: Manglik dosha, anger, property disputes.

  • Budh: studies, communication, business deals.

  • Guru: marriage delays, children, wisdom and teachers.

  • Shukra: relationships, luxury, arts and beauty.

  • Shani: Sade Sati, Dhaiya, delays and hard work without results. The Graha Pida Nivarak Shani Yantra is also popular.

  • Rahu and Ketu: confusion, sudden obstacles, Kaal Sarp dosha. See our guide on Kaal Sarp and protection yantras.

Always confirm with an astrologer before taking up remedies for a specific planet.

Brass or Bhoj Patra?

Brass and gold-plated yantras are durable and suit long-term worship on an altar or wall. Bhoj Patra yantras are drawn on birch bark, the traditional material described in old texts. They are small (3 x 3 inch), laminated for protection, and can be kept in a wallet, purse or locker. Read our full comparison in Bhoj Patra vs brass yantras.

How to install a graha yantra

  1. On the planet's day, bathe and sit facing east.

  2. Clean the yantra with Gangajal and place it on a cloth of the planet's colour (red for Sun and Mars, white for Moon and Venus, green for Mercury, yellow for Jupiter, blue or black for Saturn, Rahu and Ketu).

  3. Light a diya, offer flowers and chant the beej mantra 108 times.

  4. Place it in your pooja room and offer a short prayer on that weekday.

Frequently asked questions

Can I keep all nine planet yantras together?

Yes, but most people keep a single Navgrah Yantra instead. Keep individual planet yantras only for planets highlighted in your chart.

Which yantra is best for Sade Sati?

The Shani Yantra, along with Saturday prayers to Shani Dev and Hanuman ji.

Do yantras need to be energised again?

Traditionally, a yantra kept in daily worship stays energised. If it has been stored away for a long time, repeat the installation steps.
