Bhoj Patra Yantra vs Brass Yantra: Differences, Benefits and How to Choose

3 min read

Quick answer: Bhoj Patra yantras are drawn on birch bark, the material prescribed in traditional texts. They are small, light and meant to be carried in a wallet or kept in a locker. Brass and gold-plated brass yantras are durable and meant for daily worship on an altar or wall. Choose Bhoj Patra for personal, portable remedies; choose brass for the pooja room, office or shop.

Shreerudra stocks more than 70 yantras in Bhoj Patra, brass, gold-plated brass, wood and crystal at our store in Roop Nagar, Delhi.

What is Bhoj Patra?

Bhoj Patra is the thin, paper-like bark of the Himalayan birch tree (Betula utilis). Ancient Sanskrit manuscripts were written on it, and Tantra texts describe drawing yantras on Bhoj Patra with ashtagandha or kumkum ink using a pomegranate twig pen. Our Bhoj Patra yantras are laminated to protect the delicate bark.

How to choose

  1. Is it for you personally or for a place? Personal remedy: Bhoj Patra or a pocket yantra. Home, office or shop: brass or framed.

  2. Will you worship it daily? Choose brass or gold-plated so it can be cleaned and handled.

  3. Do you want it on display? Choose a framed or wooden yantra, or one with a display stand.

  4. Budget: Bhoj Patra and 8 x 8 cm brass yantras are the most affordable; framed and crystal yantras cost more.

Caring for your yantra

  • Keep Bhoj Patra yantras dry and away from direct sunlight.

  • Clean brass yantras with Gangajal or plain water and a soft cloth; avoid chemical polish on gold-plated surfaces.

  • If a yantra cracks or the drawing fades, replace it and immerse the old one in flowing water or under a peepal tree.

Frequently asked questions

Is Bhoj Patra more powerful than brass?

Traditional texts favour Bhoj Patra for drawing yantras, while brass (and other metals) are preferred for long-term worship. Both are valid; the right one depends on how you will use it.

Can I keep a Bhoj Patra yantra in my wallet?

Yes. That is one of its main uses. Keep it in a separate pocket of the wallet so it is not bent.

Which way should a yantra face?

Usually east or north, or facing you when you sit for worship facing east.
